Policy Research Assistants

Hestia House is seeking two Policy Research Assistants to support research, policy development, grant applications, and program documentation.

Details:
Location: Saint John, NB (Hybrid)
Employment Period: May 18 – July 31, 2026
Rate: $17.25/hour
Application Deadline: April 22, 2026

Overview
The Research Assistant will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for conducting research or developing and submitting grant applications. In addition, the role will support other projects related to the strategic management and development of the organization.

Responsibilities
The research assistant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Conducting primary and secondary research for data and information to support policy writing and grant applications
    • Primary research methods may include interviewing staff, residents, community service partners and other domestic and intimate partner violence organizations
    • Secondary research will include identification and review of both academic and internet-based sources
  • Developing draft policy and procedure documents
  • Compiling grant applications for submission
  • Developing programming documentation in consultation with staff
  • Other strategic projects as assigned
  • Contributing to overall operations of the organization as required

Qualifications
The research assistant must be able to demonstrate, through the submission of a portfolio, the following:

  • Exceptional English writing and communications skills. English and French writing and communications skills preferred
  • Strong primary and secondary research skills
  • Commitment to maintaining integrity in writing and research, including avoidance of plagiarism and misuse of artificial intelligence tools
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • Ability to work independently in a project-based environment
  • Ability to meet the security and privacy protocols of our organization, including provision of a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Ability to legally work in Canada

Fundraising Assistants

Hestia House is seeking two Fundraising Assistants to support fundraising initiatives, community partnerships, events, and related communications activities.

Details:
Location: Saint John, NB (Hybrid)
Employment Period: May 18 – July 31, 2026
Rate: $17.25/hour

Overview
The Fundraising Assistant will report directly to the Marketing and Fundraising Specialist and will support fundraising initiatives through the planning, organization, implementation, and reporting stages, including contributing to marketing and communications activities.

Responsibilities
The fundraising organizer will be responsible for:

  • Establishing community partners for fundraising initiatives
  • Supporting external community-based fundraising initiatives
  • Developing strategic and tactical project plans
  • Writing scripts for social media and organizational website
  • Assisting in the organizational activities for events, including working with suppliers and partners
  • Tracking progress of fundraising campaigns against established goals
  • Contributing to overall operations of the organization as required

Qualifications
The fundraising organizer must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of marketing and fundraising principles
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills as demonstrated by ability to meet clear deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the fundraising coordinator and the Hestia House team
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Creative thinking that contributes to expanding reach of fundraising initiatives
  • Flexibility with work hours and ability to work weekends and evenings as needed to run fundraising events
  • Ability to meet the security and privacy protocols of our organization, including provision of a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Ability to legally work in Canada
